General Health Advice

There are many general health issues which we all encounter on a day to day
basis and in some cases "just put up with" that can be alleviated with
Physiotherapy techniques.

Physiotherapy can diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and even prevent a
reoccurrence of many such conditions.

Osteo-arthritis
Osteo-arthritis (degenerative arthritis) is the medical term to describe the "wear and tear" process and is caused by the breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of one or more joints. Physiotherapy can improve the mobility and muscle strength surrounding the joint thereby slowing the process down. Treatments include, capsular stretches, joint mobilisations and an exercise programme incorporating strength, flexibility and balance.

Headaches and Dizziness
These may have differing musculo-skeletal causes such as stress, whiplash injury or neck dysfunction. Treatment modalities such as joint
mobilisations, deep tissue massage, postural advice and exercises can help settle symptoms and prevent/decrease further episodes.

Joint Replacements, Post Surgery and Post Fracture
During any surgery, the soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, tendons) around the area or joint are damaged. It is important therefore to aid the healing and ensure the muscles are returned to their pre-injury/pre-surgery strength. Physiotherapy can help eliminate swelling, enhance the natural healing processes and give a tailored exercise programme for your needs.

Dislocation and Subluxation
This occurs when the bones of a joint move away from each other completely or in part. There is usually severe soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, tendons) damage. It is important therefore to aid the healing and ensure the muscles are returned to their pre-injury strength. Physiotherapy can help in restoring normal function.

Knee Cap Problems
The tissue around the knee cap can become tight (particularly on the outside of the knee) when a muscle imbalance occurs. This can be from either a muscle weakness or muscle inflexible. Physiotherapy can help stretch the tight tissue and restore the muscle balance.
