« MH1 - Manual Handling Training

 

Pen-Y-Lôn manual handling training is different in that it is delivered by qualified ‘Occupational Physiotherapists’ who specialise in ergonomics and posture. As well as covering HSE regulations, responsibilities and handling techniques, the course is brought to life by a look at basic spinal anatomy which develops an understanding of how injuries occur and how to avoid them. Feedback shows that this generates a high level of interest amongst delegates, consistently highlighted as one of the most popular elements of the course.

« MH2 - Biology of Manual Handling

 

Training to supplement your basic manual handling course. This half - 1 day course provides a deeper insight into the biology behind manual handling and injury prevention 'from a physiotherapist's perspective'. The course covers:

 

  • Muscles, tendons, ligaments & fatigue
  • Why and how injuries occur - what really are sprains & strains
  • How best to manage employees with injuries
  • Looking after your back outside of work

 

Who should attend?
This course is appropriate for anyone responsible for managing staff or health and safety in a manual environment. This would include Health & Safety Managers and Line Managers.

« OH1 – Managing the DDA

 

Training to assist managers in working within the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) when making decisions about employees. The objective is to provide practical guidance to reduce risk of falling foul of the DDA, to dispel some of the myths that surround it and provide confidence when making decisions which could expose the company to litigation. The course covers;

 

  • What is the DDA?
  • Who is disabled under the DDA?
  • Reasonable adjustments
  • Referring employees for assessment
  • DDA rules for recruiting staff
  • Managing disability related absence

Who should attend?
DDA training is mandatory for anyone with line management responsibility. This course will be of particular interest to HR Managers, Health & Safety Managers and Line Managers.

work related stress based on the updated HSE guidelines published in 2004.

« OH3 - Sickness Absence Workshop

 

This workshop provides practical guidance on managing the ‘Occupational Health’ aspects of sickness absence. The objective is to provide practical solutions to complement any Sickness Absence Policy that is already in place. A well balanced sickness absence framework will aim to provide support for employees with a genuine case for sickness absence as well as prevent abuse from non-genuine cases. The workshop will cover;

 

  • What are the legal requirements relating to sickness absence
  • How to prevent unnecessary sickness absence
  • The case management process
